We’re excited to announce that PED has been selected as a 2015 Finalist in the GoAbroad.com Innovation Awards!
The Innovation Awards were created “to acknowledge institutions, organizations, and individuals who are creating initiatives to move the field of international education forward, and to commend leaders in the community for their efforts to go beyond the conventional.”
PED is being recognized as a finalist for Innovation in Sustainability for its 3-Phase Program that strives to empower schools beyond the traditional aid model. PED’s innovative model is centered around communities in Uganda and listening to schools leaders’ voices to determine needs. PED then works to implement an income-generating project in order to allow schools to have control of their finances and make decisions.
PED is also being acknowledged as a finalist for Innovative New Program-Volunteer for the Piggery Project at the Gulu Remand Home. Volunteers in the US raised funds for the project through the PEDAL Ride that took place in Los Angeles while volunteers in Uganda worked to construct and complete the project. The piggery will help the juvenile detention facility to generate enough income to pay a full-time teacher while also providing students with tangible skills to make them more competitive in the workforce.
The winners will be announced on Thursday, May 28 during the GoAbroad Innovation Awards Reception at the NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo.
Stay tuned for more news as it’s announced!
